Say what you will about religion in general, love it, hate it, be indifferent towards it, but it’s generally a dick move to shame someone just because of their differences in religion then write a series just to shove it in someone’s face that their god is dead. Why is this very specific information important? Because to make a very long and complicated story short, Pullman and his BFF CS Lewis were atheists together until Lewis “found God,” and through that wrote the Chronicles of Narnia series. Well, Pullman took massive offense to that so he broke ties with Lewis and wrote a series in which God is already dead but his imposter successor is killed…this won’t go over well past the Golden Compass phase, which was admittedly good because it wasn’t blatantly venomous the whole way through.
